Spotlight

The past month has jolted me out of my comfort zone, not only did I launch my website and blog, revealed to the world that Charlie’s Adventures is on its way but I was asked to strut my stuff down a catwalk (ok that was a slight exaggeration, it was a medium-sized stage but for me it may has well have been the Victoria Secret runway).

Each year I am asked by my gorgeous friend to be a model at the Ultimate Wedding Planning Day and each year I confidently accept her request, although I feel myself trembling. I would never consider myself a model. I find the mere association quite amusing, but four fashion parades in, I now know that when I walk off that stage, donning a beautiful ivory wedding dress, I would relish in the fact that I pushed my boundaries.

I have always been a quiet soul, an introvert in every sense of the word (my close friends and family may argue this). I have always shied away from the spotlight. I am the awkward silent one in groups. Despite my preference to be inconspicuous I do like to force myself out of my shell every now and again.

When I was younger I really took to dancing and performing. I loved being able to get into character leave the shy girl behind and pretend I was Mariah Carey or Britney Spears. Dancing was a refuge for me, it did wonders for my confidence (thanks to my incredible teachers) and there was something about being on stage that was exhilarating. What I learnt during my dancing days has continued to give me the support and inner strength I need to keep propelling myself out of my safe zone. Every year when I get that call from my friend my inner dancer moon walks through my thoughts and whispers ‘we’ve got this’ she gives me the backing I need.

As I forge forward on this new journey, unearthing the writer within and engaging more with my community, I am quietly content. I am learning and growing. It is true what they say when you leave what is safe and known magic fills its place.
