Reflection

Let me start this blog post with a disclaimer. I am currently nursing a newborn. I have had approximately four hours sleep in 48 hours. My four-year old daughter is having a Disney dance party in our living room at this precise moment – I have heard ‘Let  It Go’ fifteen times in a row. With all this in mind, this may not be my finest work. If you would like to keep reading, you have been warned.

I cannot believe we are mid-way through this year! For me, as most of the month of June has been tied up with feeding and seeing how long I can keep moving with little to no sleep, I thought it would be wise to keep this blog post short!

As the title for this blog post suggests, this month has mainly been one of reflection. Whilst feeding my son, doing the laundry, taking my daughter to various activities and cleaning our home (I am obsessed with cleaning – I just can’t help it – everything has to be in order for me to function), I have spent a lot of time reflecting. I have let my mind wander, thought about what has happened so far this year and pondered what might still remain on the horizon.

Reflecting on the past six months, I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to create. Not only have I helped create and bring into this beautiful world a new little man,  I have also created some new stories. I have put  pen to paper (or in my case fingers to keyboard…I told you I was tired) and I have written several manuscripts from picture books to chapter books. I have pushed myself and my imagination. Although a lot of these stories still remain in my top drawer, I have written them. When I am ready, I will start to share them and with a bit of luck (and pixie dust) magic might happen and the world will hopefully see them.

There is lots of excitement ahead over the next six to twelve months! A few of my author friends and I have been secretly working on a special project together which I will hopefully be able to share with you soon! As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I am also thrilled to be working with the incredible team at Penguin Random House Australia on an upcoming title. Again, as I mentioned in last months post, I will write more about this later. In the next few months I have been invited to run a number of workshops and author talks around Canberra. I am delighted to have the chance to come out of hibernation and interact with others who share my passion. I will also be taking Charlie out and about at a few story time sessions. I cannot wait to connect with my audience again!

Although I am very much a homebody and have thoroughly relished in the time I have spent with my family the past month, I am eager to socialise for the remainder of this year. I am looking forward to seeing how the months ahead will unfold. I am looking forward to sharing the next six months with my family. I am looking forward to showing my daughter and son how important it is to chase your dreams. I am looking forward to spending more moments reflecting, always being thankful for what has already happened and visualising the magic that is still to come.
